    1. It really is. I’ve visited the South a few times–the war is still very much on people’s minds there.

      My favorite example of it is this one that my college history professor told me: an undergrad student once came up to him after his lecture on the Civil War, and told him she was from the South, and had always assumed that Lee et al. had been on the winning side, since they had all those monuments to them.
